The River Parkway Trust urges you to stay safe on the San Joaquin River this summer
Be river-safe this summer with the high-water flows
May 26, 2022
Fresno, CA - If you have visited the San Joaquin River in the last few weeks, you may have noticed a much stronger current and more water in the channel. According to the Millerton Lake Friant Dam daily operations report, the river is currently flowing at 1600 cubic feet per second. For comparison, the average low flow is 350 CFS.
High water flows are expected in the San Joaquin River through at least August. The river might appear calm, but with higher flows, it is very cold and has a powerful current.

The San Joaquin River may look like a place to cool off when the temperature is high, but it is not safe for swimming, boating, or floating under current conditions.
Please don't try to wade or swim, paddle boats, or attempt to float in the river until the flow decreases to a safer level.
River Parkway Trust staff are regularly monitoring river conditions and will continue to send out updates throughout the summer. For daily updates visit https://cdec.water.ca.gov/river/sanj1Stages.html.
