Sumner Peck Ranch
The River Parkway Trust acquired Sumner Peck Ranch in December 2020 funded in part by a grant from the State of California San Joaquin River Conservancy. The property includes a half-mile of river frontage and wildlife habitat in addition to farmland.
Sumner Peck Ranch is located on the main channel of the San Joaquin River, approximately 5 miles downstream of Friant Dam, and is contiguous with K'uik'ui Ranch (formerly known as Ball Ranch), Ledger Island, and the Willow Unit of the San Joaquin River Ecological Reserve.
Approximately 30 of the 76.2 acres fall within the active floodplain of the San Joaquin River, and include mature native riparian forest predominated by Cottonwoods, Sycamores, Box Elders, and Valley Oaks.

your baskets, it’s time to go fruit picking!
- Come take a stroll at Sumner Peck Ranch (14439 N. Friant Rd. Friant, CA 93626), Saturdays and Sundays, from 9 am - 5 pm, no advance registration is required. Enjoy picking navel oranges, blood oranges, pomelos, Minneola tangelos, mandarins, and lemons all at $1.50 per pound. The U-Pick Citrus season will run from February 1st until the fruit is gone!
- *2026 marks the start of the Sumner Peck Ranch Restoration Project, an exciting initiative to restore the floodplain and oak savannah lands along the San Joaquin River. While the U-Pick season at the orchard has brought joy to the community over the years, this project is a vital step in creating wildlife habitat and establishing open and accessible green spaces along the Parkway. During and after restoration efforts, Sumner Peck Ranch will remain open as an iconic place that connects people to the river, land, and each other.
- Things to Know Before Picking:
- U-Pick phone number: 559-558-7813
- In cases of inclement weather or if zero customers have come to pick fruit by 1pm, U-Pick will close for the rest of the day.
- No advance registration is required for U-pick days.
- Parking is located at the end of the entrance drive (dirt road between the grape vines) near the river.
- You can purchase your citrus in the mobile home office near the river. Please no bills larger than $20, cash and credit are accepted. Apple/tap/Google pay is available.
- Please wear long pants and comfortable closed-toed shoes. Be prepared for a small hike to the grove (.25 mi). If you are unable to complete this hike, please check in at the mobile home office for further instruction.
- We encourage everyone to bring a bag, basket, or bucket for picking fruit, as staff will not have extra on site.
- Maps of the property will be available in the mobile home office upon arrival.
