Recreation Programs

The River Parkway Trust offers recreation programs for all ages throughout the year. Private programs are available upon request. All employees and volunteers staffing recreation programs are fingerprinted and background-checked.
Family Scavenger Hunts
Spring 2025 Family Scavenger Hunts will take place on the first Saturday of each month. Locations vary monthly. If your little ones enjoy being outdoors, solving clues, and searching for hidden items, then this is perfect for you. Compete in a scavenger hunt race where you will look for six different tokens hidden along the San Joaquin River. The first group to finish each hunt will win a special prize dependent on property.
Age: All Ages Welcome; groups of 2-6 participants Dates/Times/Locations: 9:00 am – 11:00 am (Scavenger Hunts last roughly 1 to 2 hours) • February 1st at Sumner Peck Ranch• March 1st at Sycamore Island• April 5th at Ball Ranch Registration required: Please use the link below to register each group. If your group arrives after the start time, you can still participate but will not have as much time as the other participants. This event is designed to be fun for the whole family, and people of all ages are welcome. Please plan to complete the activity as a team. It is recommended that you bring a water bottle and a snack and dress appropriately for a day outdoors, including shoes that can get dirty. For more information, contact Carina Damian at cdamian@riverparkway.org or call 559-248-8480 ext. 218.

Nature Walks
We invite you to come out and explore the wild and wonderful natural world of the San Joaquin River Parkway. Explore beautiful natural spaces while listening for bird songs, the sound of the river and breeze, and soak up the sense of peace and respite time spent outdoors can provide. Our nature walks are typically 2 to 4 miles in length on fairly level ground. Children 7+ are welcome on general hikes, and children 12+ are welcome on birding hikes. No dogs, please. Nature walks are free of charge; donations are welcomed. We ask that large groups or organizations arrange special group tours rather than attending regularly scheduled hikes. Special group tours can be organized by contacting the River Parkway Trust at 559-248-8480.
