Anna married a charming, handsome farmer from Madera County in 1964. Bill was raised on property near the San Joaquin River and was just purchased a parcel that bordered the River at that time. His grandparents purchased the home piece in Madera County in 1915. Anna and Bill’s sons were raised, much like their dad, with lots of time down at the River. The family hosted family, friends, our Scout troop, and later Madera Unified school field trips on their River property.
When Madera Unified SD, led by Julie O'Kane, hired a science teacher to develop a River field trip program, Anna was recruited as one of the first docents. Soon thereafter she was invited to join the Trust board because of her volunteer work and as a Madera County resident who also was a property owner on the River. Anna loved helping teachers introduce their students to the San Joaquin for 20-some years as a docent. Those years reinforced her love for the River and the Parkway project.
Anna can't overstate how gratifying it is after 30 years on the Trust board going from so much opposition and naysaying at the beginning to the current widespread support for the Parkway. The fantastic O&M support from Measure P and the state budget $15mil is a dream come true!! We're really on our way now! GO PARKWAY!!!
