Kayak or Canoe the San Joaquin

Participants should be reasonably physically fit and prepared to get wet. The minimum age to participate is 12 years old. Canoes are two-person boats, sit-on-top kayaks are single-person boats. Tours are designated as either a "kayak tour" (1 person boats, maximum of 12 participants), or "canoe tours" (2 person boats, maximum of 14 participants). Special group tours can be scheduled for groups of 10-12 (kayaks) or 10-14 (canoes). Call 559-248-8480 for details.
Reservations are required for all tours. Making reservations at least 2-4 weeks in advance is recommended. All tours include necessary equipment and instruction from our trained guides. Tours may be cancelled due to low enrollment, weather and hazardous river conditions.
Refund policy: Full refund provided for cancellations made at least 1 week in advance of tour. 50% refund provided for cancellations made three days prior to tour. No refund provided for no shows. Requests to reschedule a booked trip are not guaranteed, and must be made 3 days (72 hours) prior to the trip to be considered. If the tour is cancelled due to low enrollment, weather, or river conditions, participants will be notified with as much lead time as possible and given the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.

Become a River Tours volunteer!
Volunteers assist with shuttling participants between the put-in and take-out points for each tour, loading and unloading the boat trailers, and group management on the water. Volunteers are asked to assist with at least one trip per month. All volunteers must have a valid drivers license and their own vehicle (or access to a vehicle), be able to climb a ladder, and be able to lift 40 lbs. Join us at one of our training sessions to learn more and become a program volunteer this summer!

Friday Sunset Kayak Tours
Owl Hollow to Fort Washington Beach
Begins with exhilarating riffles that turn into calm downriver stretches. Total time 3.5 hours, approximately 2.5 hours on the water: $35 Members, $40 Non-Members. Click one of the highlighted dates to register today! *This is a kayak tour, maximum of 12 participants, each person has their own boat. Children 12+ welcome.
Times: All Sunset Tours start at 4:30pm and end at approximately 8:00pm. River conditions and group dynamics (paddling speed) can increase or decrease the length of the tour, so all ending times are approximate. Registration for all trips closes at 12:00 pm on the Thursday prior to that trip.
Saturday Morning Half-Day Kayak Tours

Great for relaxing, or escaping the summer heat. Begins with exhilarating riffles that turn into calm downriver stretches.Total time 3.5 hours, approximately 3 hours on the water. $35 Members, $40 Non-Members. River conditions and group dynamics (paddling speed) can increase or decrease the length of the tour, so all ending times are approximate. Registration for all trips closes at 12:00 pm on the Thursday prior to that trip. Registration for 2020 River Tours will open in March.
Saturday Morning Long Half-day Kayak Tour
Lost Lake to Owl Hollow
Begins with exhilirating riffles and includes the natural beauty of an undeveloped section of the San Joaquin River. Total time 4.5 hours, approximately 3.5 hours on the water. $45 Members, $50 Non-Members. Click one of the highlighted dates to register today! *This is a kayak tour, maximum of 12 participants, each person has their own boat. Children 12+ welcome.
Times: All Long Half-Day Tours start at 8:30am to and end at approximately 1:00pm. River conditions and group dynamics (paddling speed) can increase or decrease the length of the tour, so all ending times are approximate. Canoe and Kayak Rentals
2-person canoes and 1-person sit-on-top kayaks can be rented at Sycamore Island on a first-come-first-serve basis for use in the closed ponds (no downriver trips permitted with rented boats). Call ahead to check availability, (559) 801-8690. Paddles, life jackets, and entrance fees are included with rentals. $20 for the first hour and $10 for each additional hour; $50 for all day rentals. Calm Water Adventure
Perfect for first-time paddlers, and anyone looking for a relaxing paddle on calm water ponds adjacent to the river at Sycamore Island. Along the way you'll learn basic paddling skills and learn how to effectively maneuver a kayak on the water. Your guide will customize this experience based on the interest of the participants, and may include kayak games and races for those who want to focus on skills, or more exploration and information about the San Joaquin River for those who want a relaxing and educational tour. Approximately 2.5 hours on the water.
Lost Lake to Fort Washington Beach
Paddle past Native American grinding holes, Ledger and Rank Islands, and the San Joaquin Ecological Reserve. Enjoy your lunch along the way. Total time 7 hours (8:30am to 3:30pm), approximately 6 hours on the water.
