Weekend Youth Naturalist - Habitats and Interactions

Registration is closed for this event
Join us for an outdoor adventure!  This program, themed “Habitats and Interactions,” will take place at the River Center, located at 11605 Old Friant Rd.
·         Nature Walk: enjoy the beautiful Hidden Homes trail, exploring “larger than life” animal homes while discussing what is necessary for a successful habitat. Throughout the walk we will discuss the Native Americans who used to call the River their home as well as the many animals who thrive at the River Center.
·         Migration Headache: it’s the time of year for Bald Eagles to start their migration from Canada to Millerton Lake! Discover the trials Bald Eagles must face on their long journey south through a fast-paced, socially distant, energetic game. Bring your running shoes!
·         Fairy Houses: create your own small imaginary creature and identify its habitat needs, then use natural materials to build a “fairy house” or small shelter/habitat for that creature.
·         Habitat Jenga: this giant Jenga set is more than just a game. Each piece represents a component of a habitat necessary for survival. What will happen if we run out of food or water? Spin the dial and let’s find out. Hand sanitizer and masks will be required for this activity. Hand sanitizer will be provided.
·         Arrowhead Necklace: “hunt” for arrowheads (replicas provided by the River Parkway Trust) and use the found “artifact” and wooden beads to create a necklace keepsake to take home.

This adventure requires your child to be between the ages of 6 and 9 to participate.  Parents are required to stay on-site for the duration of the event, and are encouraged to assist with social distancing among youth participants. Please note that there is a $15.00 fee per child and advanced registration with online payment is required for participation (please only select the number of CHILD participants when registering).   Please provide a water bottle and mask to have on for your child(ren).
