Family-Friendly Nature Hike at the River Center - Owl Hollow
Join guide John H. for this free family-friendly nature walk at the River Center and nearby Owl Hollow!
The focus of the walk will be natural cycles, which are critical to life on earth. Understanding these cycles and how they interact is key to understanding our impact on the earth's ecological systems.
This walk will begin at the Hidden Homes Trail and is best suited for youth ages 7+, though younger children are welcome as well. The Hidden Homes trail is approximately 1/2 mile in length and features larger than life animal habitats of local species. We will focus on these critters and how they fit into the natural cycles of the surrounding area.
Depending on participant interest, we may then head over to nearby Owl Hollow, a riverfront facility located just North of the River Center. We'll explore the impacts of human activity on local and global ecosystems, and the importance of understanding the natural cycles. Following the walk, we'll explore ideas on how we can minimize our impacts on the earth's systems.
The Hidden Homes portion of the walk may be up to 1/2 mile in length and last up to 1 hour. Owl Hollow portion may be up to 2 miles in length and last up to 1.5 hours. Please dress appropriately for a morning outdoors (long pants, closed-toed shoes) and bring a reusable water bottle and a mask to have on hand.
Due to COVID-19, we will be keeping the group size small. Advanced registration is required; please be sure to include all attendees (including children) when registering.
