The Van Buren unit, along with Sycamore Island, makes up a region of the San Joaquin River Parkway known as River West Madera.  Join us to explore this property, which is not currently open to the public, and see all that the San Joaquin has to offer.  We’ll stroll along the property, looking for native flora and fauna, and discuss the history of the San Joaquin River and the River West projects.

Bill Wattenbarger has been leading nature walks for the Trust for over 10 years.  He has a Biology degree from Fresno State, with a particular interest in life sciences, and has worked for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the National Parks Service in addition to serving as a Boy Scouts troop leader.

Please dress appropriately (closed toed shoes, long pants, etc.) and bring a hat, sunscreen, water, binoculars and a small snack.

We will be meeting at 9 AM at the River Center (11605 Old Friant Rd, Fresno) and carpooling to the Van Buren site.
