January 24, 2017

The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust begins its celebration of 25 years of Parties for the Parkway Thurs., Feb. 2, with an ArtHop reception for this year’s contributing artists. The free reception takes place from 5 to 8 pm at K-Jewel Art Gallery, 1415 Fulton St. in downtown Fresno.

“It’s going to be a wonderful evening saluting these fine local artists with live entertainment, appetizers and beverages,” said Sharon Weaver, Executive Director of the Trust. “Many of the 60 pieces of art beautifully represent experiences on the San Joaquin River and also reflect our local lakes, wildlife and landscape. We are grateful to these generous artists for these outstanding pieces and for the commitment they’ve shown to the River Parkway Trust all these years.”

Bidding to purchase paintings in oil, watercolor and mixed media as well as photographs, sculpture, jewelry and glass pieces, will start the night of the reception and end March 9 at the Parties for the Parkway Kick Off at Clovis Veterans’ Memorial District Building. Tickets at $40 for Trust members and $45 for non-members are available starting Feb. 1 at 8:00 am online at or by phone at 559-248-8480.

A handmade 20-ft. cedar canoe by the late craftsman Steve Farris also will be on display at the gallery. Tickets for a 25th anniversary special opportunity drawing for the canoe, valued at $5,000, will be on sale for $25 each.

Fifty Parties for the Parkway, from canoe trips to tours to special dinners, are planned for this 25th year. All funds raised by the Parties go to Trust programs to preserve more open space for recreation and wildlife habitat, build more trails and educate children and adults about the San Joaquin River.

The artwork will remain on view and available for bids in the K-Jewel Art Gallery until Feb. 28. For more information visit or call (559) 248-8480.
