Madera Unified 6th Grade Field Trips - Sycamore Island Volunteer Training

Registration is closed for this event

The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us run our River Field Trip Education Programs.  If you’re interested in bringing youth together with nature by becoming an Education Docent, join us at this training to learn more!

All Madera Unified 6th grade classrooms participate in 3 experiences with the River Parkway Trust each school year.  This training will focus on the 3rd experience, the half-day field trip at Sycamore Island.  On this trip classrooms canoe on a calm water pond, go on a photo scavenger hunt, and explore the Creepy Crawlies (aquatic invertebrates) that live in the San Joaquin.

This training introduces participants to the program and prepares them to assist with the Sycamore Island field trips.  Field trips take place Mondays-Fridays from 9 am - 1 pm.  Training topics will include each of the above activities, as well as basic canoeing skills.  The morning (9 am - 12:30 pm) will be spent outdoors at Sycamore Island-- please dress appropriately!  Snacks will be provided.
