Soul Calling: A Photographic Journey Through The Hmong Diaspora

Photographer/author Joel Pickford will present an informative slide lecture about his eight-year project documenting Hmong culture, from the vegetable farms of California to the mountains of Laos. Joel’s book, Soul Calling, follows the exodus of Hmong refugees from the aftermath of the CIA’s Secret War in Laos to squalid refugee camps in Thailand, and finally to a challenging new life in America.

In partnership with the Fresno Art Museum photographs from Joel's book will be displayed at the River Center Art Gallery in the Riverview Ranch House through the month of April.

This exhibit has been curated by Michele Ellis Pracy, Executive Director & Chief Curator at Fresno Art Museum.

All art will be on display in the River Center Art Gallery on weekends only from March 2 through April 28 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Admission to the River Center and River Center Art Gallery is free.

The exhibit can also be viewed on Friday, April 5th between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm before the slideshow lecture.
