Take a break from the rush of everyday life and join the River Parkway Trust for a Respite by the River. Bring your picnic dinner, blanket, and lawn chair, and relax at the River Center while you enjoy music provided by talented local musicians. Then you'll enjoy a reading by a Central Valley author.
The evening schedule is as follows: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. - Live dinner music, bring your dinner, lawn chair, or blanket 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. - Reading by acclaimed author
Cynthia Guardado
Cynthia Guardado /Gwarr-Dah-Doe/ (she/her/hers) is the daughter of Salvadoran born parents, a poet, and a Professor of English at Fullerton College. She is the Editor-in-Chief of LiveWire, an online literary magazine. She is the author of two collections of poetry: Cenizas (University of Arizona Press 2022) and ENDEAVOR (World Stage Press 2017).
Guardado also translated and transcribed interviews with journalist and Cuban exile, Normando Hernandez Gonzalez which were published in The Madrid Conversations (New Orleans Press 2013). Her poems have appeared in Poetry Magazine, Huizache, U.S. Latinx Voices in Poetry, The Wandering Song. She also won the Concurso Binacional De Poesía Pellicer-Frost in 2017 (México) and Cenizas was a finalist for the National Poetry Series in 2019.

Join these photographers as they travel together capturing the world’s beauty from three different perspectives. Newton Seiden, Joseph Hawkins, and Michael Goldring are friends and talented photographers who have taken many trips together but with styles so unique you won’t know they are standing in the same place. Each artist has a distinct shooting style that has created this intriguing exhibit. See if you can guess what photos belong to which trip at this artist reception. Bring your family and friends to the River Center to enjoy refreshments and appetizers with the artists. This exhibit will be featured in the Ranch House throughout the month of June for visitors to enjoy.
