Join us for this 3.5 hour downriver training from Owl Hollow to Fort Washington Beach to complete your River Tours Volunteer Training! (In order to attend this training, you must first attend a dry land training; dry land trainings are on March 17th and March 21st, 2018).
At this training we will be going through a typical canoe tour from start to finish, including: check-in, vehicle and passenger shuttling, water safety information, canoeing basics, and completing a downriver trip. This will be a canoe tour. The trip will end at approximately 12:00 pm (but may take longer depending on river conditions, participant skill level, etc.).
We will be meeting at Fort Washington Beach (10705 N Lanes Rd) at 8:30 am. Please dress appropriately for a day on the water, including: a hat, sunscreen, clothing and shoes that can get wet (NO FLIP FLOPS! Sandals must have backs), and a water bottle. Please do not bring any electronics or valuables with you (the river has claimed many wedding rings over the years!). We will have a dry bag for car keys and other small, essential items.
Volunteers assist with shuttling participants between the put-in and take-out points for each tour, loading and unloading the boat trailers, and group management on the water. Volunteers are asked to assist with at least one trip per month. All volunteer must have a valid drivers license and their own vehicle (or access to a vehicle), be able to climb a ladder, and be able to lift 40 lbs. To become a volunteer you will need to attend at least two of the four training sessions (one dry land, one downriver).
