Fresno, CA - The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust will open Sycamore Island for public recreation access to the San Joaquin River beginning Friday, February 1, 2019 at 6:00 am. For many years, Central Valley anglers have come to know and appreciate the great fishing opportunities at Sycamore Island. The seven inland ponds and nearly 3 miles of riverbank offer some of the best bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill fishing in the region. Boat ramps for light-weight fishing boats are available. The Trust also offers canoe and kayak rentals onsite.

Sycamore Island Ranch is a 600-acre natural area conveniently located in Madera near Valley Children's Hospital. It is a great place for families to fish, bird watch, hike, run, kayak, canoe, picnic, ride mountain bikes, or simply relax and take in the beauty of the San Joaquin River and the wildlife inhabitants that make it their home.

The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust has spent the last 30 years working with local landowners and agencies to acquire land, build trails, and improve habitat along the river for people and wildlife. The Trust is now the primary provider of public access to Parkway lands; offering nature walks and field trips to a variety of locations along the 22-mile Parkway, and public park operations at Sycamore Island and the Coke Hallowell Center for River Studies.

Sycamore Island will be open Fridays through Sundays and State holidays from February 1 to November 11. Seasonal hours of operation are 6:00 am to 5:30 pm February, March, October, and November; 6:00 am to 7:00 pm April and September; and 6:00 am to 8:30 pm May through August.  Entry fees are $9.00 per vehicle and $5.00 per trailer. Annual passes are available for $85. Snacks, drinks, and bait are available for purchase. Sycamore Island is located in Madera County near Valley Children’s Hospital at 39664 Avenue 7 1/2, Madera, CA.
